What a hoax.
I hear this all the time, and 99% (made up statistic) of the time the person saying it has major health issues.
To me, this is way off. It raises a red flag, and the reason is that not everything weighs the same, nor does everyone consume an equal share of everything in the first place!
Don't get ahead, I DO believe that finding a good balance is key, but there's a HUGE difference between "everything in moderation" and "a balanced diet".
Let me explain:
If you take it literally, everything in moderation would mean everything. That means you can have some chocolate, ice cream, candy, etc. But that also would mean you have to consume everything on the good side, meaning broccoli, avocado, spinach, spirulina, etc.
But that's not what people do or say. You see, when someone knows they shouldn't be eating something, say a bag of chips, they say "it's ok, everything in moderation" but when they are about to eat a vegetable they hate, they just opt out of eating it!
I have never heard someone say "everything in moderation" while eating anything healthy.
I've only ever heard it used while someone’s eating crap!
Another important factor that would need to be applied into this equation is the fact that not all foods are created equal. A soda is highly acidic, and it doesn't take much to cause damage. If you are an unhealthy person, just one more crappy intake knocks you out for the night or can lead to serious complications such as a heart condition.
Here's my take on things...
Be healthy 90% of the time, heck even 80%, and your body can handle the rest.
That's what I love about the way we are designed. We CAN handle a lot of the crap we put in, but only if it's such a small percentage that our bodies can still function properly and process it.
If we pump junk food in day in and day out, our body’s never get the upper hand, and we eventually become a statistic.
Want to know how you can still enjoy your coffee?
Want to know how you can still enjoy your "treat"?
Put 80% good in, and then enjoy whatever else you want. Plain and simple.
Give your body the base it needs and you will always be amazed at how good you can feel!
Here’s the best part about eating clean 80-90% of the time… When life happens, you can still LIVE. You can still have that chocolate Sunday, and it can be enjoyed GUILT free because you’ve taken care of your body’s needs already!
The best gift you can give yourself is to care enough about your health to most of the time, that you can enjoy life’s little pleasures without the guilt some of the time.
And realistically, who can really enjoy an ice cream cone while feeling guilty?
Be clean most of the time and you’ll be all set.
