YOU are fully capable of amazing things.
Last week my wife Koral and I were out of town, and we had a 5 hour drive (each way) to enjoy, so we took the opportunity to catch up on some much needed Jim Rohn philosophies and insights.
For a combined total of roughly 11 hours in a car, we listened to absolutely nothing but Jim Rohn, and I realized something: If more people took the time to care about where their life is going, their life would be substantially different.
Take last week for example. I was at our local radio station going through just under 100 applicants for a special weight loss challenge my studio was hosting, and one at a time we pulled up the applications and went through them in order to decide who would be the 3 chosen to compete.
One of the applicants really stuck out. He had a great story and a lot of reasons as to why he desperately needed this transformation, and yet I didn't give the applicant the time of day and scrapped it in the NO pile.
Why?
He made one little comment, maybe written half-jokingly, but that I took seriously. He wrote "The only problem is that I can't live without my soda" and boom, into the NO pile it went.
Is it because soda is that bad? Nope, not at all. We’ve been through this in Chapter 1.
It was the fact that they were a slave to the pop.
Weight loss is not easy.
Weight loss is not a walk in the park.
In fact, any successful person will tell you that reaching any worthwhile goal is always a challenge, that's why so few accomplish the goals they set out to reach.
It takes true resolve to reach goals, true commitment. True realization that YOU are in control of YOUR body. Just imagine living your whole life a slave, unable to put down the dang soda.
Now, it might be easy to say "ya, that's crazy, as if they can't quit soda", but let's not point fingers, we all have our vices. The real damage is NOT what the vice is, the damage is whether it rules you, or you rule it.
So, lately I've been wanting to give a pep talk about motivation, something we ALL need once in a while.
Let me start off by saying this: motivation does NOT last. There is “de-motivation” happening around us constantly. True motivation needs to be continuously reapplied if you are to keep your momentum going. That's why nearly everything that I allow in my social media Newsfeed is from positive, motivational sources while I simply "unfollow" everything I don't deem helpful in the attainment of my goals.
When I go online and starting browsing my social media accounts and browse the newsfeed, I leave happy, motivated and encouraged - not down and out with all the crap in the world and in our own city. I ignore anything that isn't helpful, anything that doesn’t pertain to my motivational needs or guide me closer to my goals.
When I was growing up, my dad continuously preached the value of watching what goes into my mind, from what I see, read, do, hear etc. from all different sources like friends, radio, tv, books etc. That being said, I am not ignorant to the world around me, or global and local problems, but everything has a place and a time.
What goes into your mind DOES have an impact on how you feel, how you act, the decisions you make and, best (or worst) of all... YOUR MOTIVATION.
Let’s say your goal is to lose weight, do you not think it would be a great idea to stack the deck IN your favor by putting motivation pictures, quotes etc. anywhere you focus your attention??
I mean, if you love social media and spend a fair amount of your time browsing the newsfeed, don't you think following fitness/motivational pages is a good idea? And maybe unfollowing a few others?
Unfortunately, motivation DOES NOT LAST. We are continuously being pulled down to lower standards and unless you decide to take charge of your life, nothing will ever help you.
The good thing is that these are laws of nature. If you apply the principles, you will reap the rewards. If you don't believe me, you have to first justify your disbelief by giving it a 100% effort for at least 21 days, otherwise you're just guessing and cutting yourself short
I believe in you. I believe you can do this. You just need to believe in yourself and understand that there WILL be rough days. I mean, let's face it 95% of the people you will run into every day will be roughly where you are, and NOT where you WANT to be, so guess what, if you really want this you need to step up and believe in yourself MORE than others believe in you.
Have faith, we're all rooting for you.
To your success,
Al
